🗞️ Industry News Roundup

Expedia TAAP adds flexible payment options for advisors

Expedia’s TAAP platform has introduced new payment flexibility options—such as extended hold periods and more deposit alternatives—designed to help advisors better manage cash flow and reduce cancellation liabilities.

Impact: Improved payment terms allow advisors to secure bookings with less financial risk, offer enhanced client options (e.g., partial payments), and potentially increase conversion rates, especially helpful in a market with fluctuating consumer confidence.

Shoulder-season bookings surge amid shifting traveler behavior

A survey of TravelSavers and NEST network advisors reveals a notable increase in bookings during shoulder seasons, with around one-third reporting double-digit growth. In response, advisors are designing shorter, value-driven trips and reconnecting with dormant clients to spark demand.

Impact: This trend highlights new revenue opportunities outside peak summer travel. Advisors who pivot to flexible, creative, and timely offerings—along with proactive outreach—stand to win more business and improve year-round stability.

Travel Advisor Survey Shows Bookings Decline

A recent Travel Weekly survey conducted in June 2025 found that 57.7% of travel advisors reported a decline in bookings so far this year, though 31.3% reported growth in their business

Impact: The majority-facing contraction highlights heightened pressure on advisor revenue streams, prompting many to re-evaluate strategies, while the growing minority underscores the advantage of specialization. Advisors must actively reconnect with past clients, develop niche and value-driven offerings, and implement flexible booking policies to navigate booking softness and align with the adaptability demonstrated by the top-performing segment.

My Top Tip:

Network like your business depends on it, because it does.

You never know who you will get a client from or who will become a client. I have had clients referred to me by other advisors, and even booked a trip for another travel advisor.

Recommended Travel Resource:

ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity. All three can help you do travel research faster.

🌍Destination Trio: Three unique destinations to recommend

🏝️ Lefkada, Greece

While everyone flocks to Santorini and Mykonos, Lefkada offers world-class beaches like Porto Katsiki and Egremni, charming villages, waterfalls, and authentic Greek island culture. Easy access via Preveza Airport (30 minutes by car) and connected to mainland Greece by bridge - no ferry required!

Best time to visit: May-September for warm weather and crystal-clear waters

🏙️ Taipei, Taiwan

Often overlooked for other Asian cities, Taipei delivers incredible value with world-class night markets, amazing street food, friendly English-speaking locals, hot springs, temples, and easy access to mountains and coastlines. Safe, affordable, and authentic Asian culture without the crowds.

Best time to visit: October-December or March-May for pleasant weather and fewer crowds

🍷 Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain

While tourists crowd Barcelona and Madrid, San Sebastián offers Spain's best culinary scene in a stunning coastal setting. World-renowned pintxos bars, Michelin-starred restaurants, beautiful La Concha beach, and authentic Basque culture make this a foodie paradise without the tourist masses.

Best time to visit: May-September for beach weather, or September-October for harvest season and fewer tourists
